4s vs 5: What's So Special?
Bigger screen
The iPhone 5 has a 4-inch screen with a resolution of 1136x640 whereas the iPhone 4 and 4s has a 3.5-inch screen and a 960x640 resolution. The aspect ratio on the iPhone 5 is 16:9 ratio which means no more black borders around movies and video. However, since a lot of the apps are not up-to-date with the new phone, a lot of games and other applications will have black borders on the sides until they are updated. Despite the larger screen and better aspect ratio, both phones have the same pixel density so the iPhone 5's image is not any sharper.
Size
The iPhone 5 is both lighter and thinner. It is recorded to be 18% thinner and 20% lighter than the 4S.
LTE
Apple has finally decided to upgrade to LTE which means the videos and downloads will stream much faster than before.
Better camera
Although the back camera for the 4S and 5 will be the same number of megapixels (8), it is said that the camera is 40% faster than before. It can also take panoramic pictures (which can also be done on the 4S with the new iOS6 update). However, the front facing camera has gone from under 1 megapixel to 1.2.
A6 Processor
The previous iPhone has an A5 processor. Upgrading to the A6 will give it twice the computing power.
Battery Life
Like most people hoped, the battery life on the new phone is a lot better. Even with having LTE, the iPhone 5 has about an extra 25 standby hours and 8 hours of talking and surfing the web.
Headphones
New phone, new headphones. Apple redesigned their headphones, calling them earpods, directing the music right into your ear.
Lightning connector
Lastly, Apple has redesigned the connector, calling it the Lightning connector. They changed from a 30 pin connector to an 8 pin making it 80% smaller than before. Another big change is that the cable is reversible so no more fumbling around with the wire to plug it in.
